Commercial Register
The commercial register is a public register in Austria in which all corporations (GmbH, AG) and registered partnerships (OG, KG), as well as sole proprietorships above certain turnover thresholds, are recorded. It is maintained by the regional courts and can be viewed electronically.
Explanation
The commercial register contains essential information about a company: company name, legal form, registered office, managing directors, shareholders, share capital and authorised signatories. Entry is made on application to the competent regional court (commercial register court). To register a GmbH, a notarised articles of association, the registered office with a registered address and proof of the capital contribution are required. The commercial register can be viewed publicly via the justice website (firmenbuch.at).
